Can You Tell Me How To Get What's Happening on Sesame Street?

Katy Perry just got bounced from her appearance on Sesame Street because many parents were upset by the amount of cleavage the singer displayed on the popular children's educational show. The lib Hollywood media was quick to pounce on "Prud-merica," and the Sesame Street producers were surprised at the reaction.  But C'mon guys! Really? Don't get me wrong, I think Katy Perry's cute as a button, and there's no bigger fan of boobies than me. But there's a time and a place for everything and a duet with Elmo on Sesame Street is neither the time nor the place. What responsible adult goes on a children's show with their ya-yas out? What responsible production crew doesn't suggest a more appropriate wardrobe for their guest star?

Then my head spins a complete 360 when I see this little tid-bit:

 

Now don't get me wrong, I think Anna Paquin is as cute as a button, and there's no bigger fan of "True Blood" than me, but there's a time and a place for everything, and these kids shouldn't even know "True Blood" is in the world! Surely the producers of Sesame Street are just tossing a bone to those parents who must feel that their entire lives are being brought to you by the letter Q and the number 2.

In that spirit, I say they didn't go far enough. I kept waiting for Count Count to show up as the Vampire King of Mississippi.

"I count one-- ONE gooified un-life partner in a candy dish! BLAH HA HA HA!"

The Sam puppet could turn into Ralph the Dog and Bert and Ernie could be Sheriff Andy and Jason Stackhouse.

WASHINGTON – As her Republican opponent called for a House ethics investigation, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson insisted Thursday that she had no idea that the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation had rules against awarding college aid to her relatives.

"If I had known this was against the law I wouldn't have done it," the Dallas Democrat told WFAA-TV (Channel 8), as she began trying to rebuild her image after days of scrutiny of $31,000 in scholarships she awarded in violation of nepotism and residency rules. "I did not have an ethical alarm go off."

Poor Eddie Bernice Johnson is just the latest rule-maker turned rule-breaker to claim not to understand the laws they've passed.  If only she had the Ethical Alarm--

The Games People Play

There's no bigger fan of the Xbox Live Arcade game "Toy Soldiers" than I am. It is the most enjoyable video game I've ever played and find it a thoroughly immersive experience. I decided to find out what goes in to developing such a cool game and spoke with D. R. Albright, one of the principal players at Signal Studios, developers of "Toy Soldiers."

Sam Kean's book, "The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements," put a hook in me from the outset. It has everything I love-- geeky science, obscure history, a cast of crazy characters and a big-picture overview of each element's claim to fame and how they found their place on the periodic table. It's a fun read, and more entertaining than a book on the periodic table has a right to be.

Sam was a great interview-- personable, funny and knowledgeable. I'm sure I'll be the envy of my nerdy friends who have the giant periodic table hanging on the wall at home! (You know who you are.)

Apollo XI touched down on the lunar surface forty-one years ago today. I was just a lad of four but Man's first excursion upon the face of another heavenly body touched me profoundly. As far back as I can remember, I wanted to be an astronaut-- but my mathematical abilities, or lack thereof, forced me to make other career choices. Still, the life-long love of space exploration never waned.

While I may never get to press my footprint into the dusty lunar soil, I could, with enough cash, turn my backyard into a replica Tranquility Base. Here's a company that will not only rent you the appropriate spacesuit, but a full sized lunar module and a command capsule. Honey, call the neighbors and chain up the dog, the Eagle has landed!

Even if I never get to fly to the stars or just pimp the backyard playhouse into the ultimate space excursion vehicle, I can still live vicariously through the adventures of others. In September of 2006 I had the great fortune to interview Buzz Aldrin one of my childhood heroes and the second man on the moon. Listen to Dr. Aldrin describe that historic event in his own words.

According to a story at MailOnline, Google StreetView has captured an unusual image of a creature they've dubbed, 'Horseboy." 

The bizarre sight, dubbed 'Horseboy', has become an unlikely internet sensation after being snapped by one of Google's cars on an otherwise unremarkable Aberdeen street.

As most of you know, I've been everywhere and I've done everything, and I have the pictures to prove it. And it sometimes proves helpful in my travels to go incognito, as I attempted on a recent jaunt to Scotland. But it never fails, leave the house having a bad mane day and there will surely be a camera around... 

Yes, I'm afraid I must cop to this too.
