I was astounded last week to hear the comments by Republican Representative Darrell Issa from San Diego regarding federal funding of compensation for the 9/11 workers and first responders who've become ill from exposure to toxic materials at ground zero. I was even more astounded to learn this week that he's requested $26.8M in federal funds for flood control and highway improvements in Riverside county. Excuse me? If the little "plane crash" and resulting fire are simply a New York problem, aren't a few floods and aging roads a California problem?
The first audio track is my rant about Darrel Issa from April 3rd. The next day we spoke with Jack McDonnell, NYFD and President of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association to get his take on what Representative Issa had to say.
